Yesterday and This Morning!

It is August 2nd, and I was supposed to weigh in this morning.  Oops!  Well let me tell you my excuse, I overslept.  I am supposed to be at work at 6:30a, I straight woke up at 6:03am!  HaHa!

So this morning was a mad dash to shower, dress and get out the door.  Which I did in record time.  I was out of the door by 6:33am.  Then much to my surprise, I walk out to my garage and what do I see?  A big ole Penske moving truck parked parallel to the garages.  I can't even get into my garage!  As you can imagine...I have smoke coming out of my ears!  I had 1/2 the mind to call a tow truck!  But somewhere deep within me there was a voice of reason...I called Penske and asked them to track down the driver to come move the darn truck!

Okay so that was the drama of this morning!  I will move on to what I really came to report in about.

Wednesday August 1st.  Pretty decent day!  I started off the morning with Rowing.  I meet 2 of the BGR girls over at the studio for a 6am class.  Rowing is hard on its own, being in class @ 6am just made it that much more difficult!  But nonetheless, I got through it.  It was a great way to start the day!  I will have to see how often I can be late to work, so I can get to 6am rowing class.

My energy levels were surprisingly high all day, I attribute that to the early morning exercise.  I maintained my planned meals for the day and even got an easy (very easy) evening workout.  So after I got done with my Arthritis Foundation Assignment I hopped on the treadmill.  I walked only, no jogging, and I keep it at a rather slow pace.  I stayed between 3 - 3.5mph.  Nothing to taxing since I already had my hard workout in the morning.

Let the gym, started heading home and there was an accident on the 405 Freeway!  Ugh!  It made the drive home so much more later than it needed to be.  But at least I got home safely, and it appears the people in the accident were safe as well.

Okay that is all for me today...Oh..here are yesterdays workouts:

WOW...What A Wednesday!

I had a great hump day! Why? Well I got to go to rowing class! It was my first class back since March 2012! I miss it so! I got to go to my Wednesday afternoon spin class...how I missed that too. But it was a sub teaching and she was rathering...BORING!

So yesterday...not the best eating day. I woke up late so I had to run out of the house without making my eggs! So Breafast turned out to be: White chocolate latte and a Cheese crumble Danish.

We had a lunch meeting at work (OOPS) So lunch turned out to be 2 slices of pizza, a side salad, and some Alfredo pasta. That Alfredo Pasta was delightful!

Dinner...left over pizza from lunch.

As you can see, I definately carbed up! LOL! It was probably the best thing for me that I had 2 workouts in!

Workouts

  • 45 minutes of Spinning
  • 1 hour of Rowing

Well in a few weeks I will be embarking on a 12-week weight loss challenge with my wonderful BGR girls.  The challenge starts August 21 and requires weekly weigh-ins and weekly picture taking.  I am not happy about the picture taking.  But this is probably just the thing I need to get me motivated...Nothing like a good competition!  For the competition I have to keep a food log on MyFitnesspal.com.  Logging things online used to appeal to me, but I am so over it.  I hope I can maintain it, if I don't they will remove me from the group!  I look forward to seeing how my body will transform in the 12 weeks, so look forward to the posts and possibly the pictures as the challenge begins!

Talk to you Later!

Whole Body Vibrations

Hmm...I am sure many are puzzled by the title, but fret not I will explain.  These last couple of days I have ventured out to try something new.  I saw a special on Truebates for Whole BOdy Vibrations sessions at ChiroMassage Centers.  I honestly don't know much about what it does, but I know they say one of hte benefits is weight loss....so I had to try it!  I took my first session on Friday.  It was a bit ackward at first feeling every part of me shake and vibrate like crazy!  I could even see my checks shaking!  I have 7 sessions so I will see how this goes.

I am still struggling with my eating.  I am making some bad eating choices, which I don't understand.  I undo all my physical excercise by making bad food choices!  Oye!  When will I learn!

Today, I had another awesome rowing class!  And by awesome, I mean, hard as hell!  LOL!  Man it was a tough session.  I wanted to quit 20 minutes into class and in addition to having bad cramps, I was struggling.  But I made it through, I am not sure how, but I did.  I tracked my meters today and I did 7314 meters, which is about 4.5 miles.  http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/gCIG6QaVnyk

So my distance is getting better, and I noticed my split times are getting better.  Well that is all I have for now.  I am just laying here on my heating pad waiting for hte advil to kick in and take my back pain & cramps away.

Lost Track...

The days are going by way way too fast.  Just thought it would take a moment to update on the happenings.  The juicing is going okay.  I don't know if I have lost any weight yet, but I definately feel the difference in my energy level.  I am struggling with letting go of the caffiene. I always intended to not have coffee in the morning, but I always give into the cravings!    Today I went without coffee this morning and struggled all day with a headache that would not go away.  Advil did not help it at all.  So I ended up drinking soda and the headache went away!  I must stop giving in to the cravings!

Juicing as I mentioned is going well.  I made a juice with Brussel Sprouts on Thursday I believe.  It tasted okay, but it made me very very gassy.  Friday I did a blend of spinach and apples and that was delicious.  One thing I notice with the spinach is that I don't get alot of juice from the spinach.  I had to juice a whole lot of spinach to get 12 ounces of juice.

Made it back to rowing class today, and boy that class is still tough.  its an awesome workout, but its still a struggle!  So that is all for now.  Not much more to report.  See you on the lip side.

Indoor Rowing...A little Knowledge

Well I have been actively trying to recruit people to join me on my rowing class adventure.  The one question I get is, What is rowing and what does it do for you excervise wise?  So I never really know what to say, because I really have no idea myself.  I just know I got the machine and did what the instructor told me to do years ago.

So after my class on this past Saturday, out of my excitement I tried to tell a friend about hte class.  I did a really terrible job at explaining it.  But I got on the internet this morning and did some research!

Rowing really is a full body workout..I can attest to that.  But here are some benefits of rowing, brought to you from the folks at Concept 2 Rowing, who makes the machines I row on.

Benefits of Rowing

Whether you already row or are considering rowing to keep in shape, lose weight, cross-train for another sport, compete on the water or rehabilitate from injury or surgery, rowing is the complete exercise for you. Arms, legs, chest, back, abs—even your mind. Your whole body gets a complete workout from the efficient, rhythmic motion of rowing. Rowing is such a great exercise in so many different ways.
  • Low-impact (easy on the knees and ankles)
  • High calorie burner (because it uses so many muscle groups)
  • Great for joint health (joints move through a wide range of motion)
  • Upper body (completes the stroke)
  • Lower body (the legs initiate the drive)
  • Works the back and abs too!
  • Superb aerobic fitness (great for cardiovascular fitness)
  • Relieves Stress (for overall health and well-being)
This is different from the rowing you may have done as a kid in a rowboat. The difference lies in the sliding seat. Your legs compress and extend with every stroke—in addition to the more obvious work being done by the back and arms.
Legs: You begin each stroke with your legs compressed and your shins vertical. You initiate the drive with the powerful muscles of your legs, and finish with your legs fully extended. Rowing promotes both strength and flexibility through this wide range of leg motion.
Arms: At the catch, your arms are outstretched; at the finish of the stroke, they have pulled the handle into your abdomen. As with the legs, this range of motion promotes both strength and flexibility.
Core: chest, back, abs: At the start of the stroke, the power of the legs is connected to the handle by means of the arms and the core muscles of the body. Then the back is more fully involved as it swings open through the middle of the stroke. Finally, the body is stabilized at the finish by the abdominal muscles.
For a detailed description of the muscle groups involved,
see Muscles Used.

I am not gonna lie the class is very challenging for me, especially since I am out of shape.  But I always get a great workout on Saturday Mornings!

Saturday Shmatterday

I know its unusual for me to post on the weekend.  But Yesterday was a different day for me.  Not too different but I had a truly amazing time rowing!  I wrote down the meters I rowed at Saturdays class and I rowed a half mile more than I did back in August 2012.  Not bad for not taking class for 6 months! I really do enjoy those rowing classes!

So here is the eats for the day.  My eating schedule was way off.  I didn't get to put anything but an apple into my mouth until about 8am.  Then loaded up on protein after rowing that morning...but none the less, not a bad eating day.

     Apple

Mid AM Snack/Post Workout Eats
     Grilled Chicken

Lunch
    Halibut

Saturday night was also singles night at church.  I went to the event they had a taco bar.  I limited myself to the chicken and used hte lettuce & tomatos to make myself a salad.  Loaded up on the salsa (I heart Salsa) and then dabble in the bean dip.  It was a good night. I like when I am able to go out and enjoy myself and still eat semi-healthy.  Yah to me for making a decent food choice.

Workout:
     1 hour of rowing
Completed 6837 meters which is about 4.24 miles!
(August 2011 my meters rowed was 3.8 miles)

After Workout Snack:  Druids Detox from Leaf Organics.
I went to my first Vegan Cafe today.  I did not eat there, but I got a detox drink from them, that was rather tasty.  I don't feel like I've detoxed though, it just made me really gassy.  I may need to drink 2, or maybe eat healthier on the day I drink it.  The Druid Detox consisted of Burdock Root, Lemon, Apple, Ginger, Agave and cayenne.  Good drink, easy to go down.  Check out the website something may interest you:  http://leaforganics.com/

Lunch & Junk:  Chicken from Hawaiin Cafe, Pepperoni Pretzel, Frozen Lemonade

Dinner:     Medium cup of vanilla ice cream!

All I can do is shake my head as I just typed ice cream!  What was I thinking!

I also made my weekly Sprouts Farmers Market run, stocked up on my spinach, kale, cucumbers, tomatoes, and I picked up a bottle of Walden Farms Dressing.  I can't wait to try it, since it has no calories, fat or sugars in it.  I just hope it taste good.  Stay tuned cause ones I get to taste it, I will have a full review!

Had Some Crazy Fun!

Well gang...I made it through my StreetRider Experience and my re-introduction to Rowing.  So lets starting with rowing.  I have a picture & a little amatuer Iphone video.  But boy..that bike was hard to get started.  It required both arm and foot movement to get it going.  It took me a while to get the thing to move.  Then once I started moving I was always veering to the left.  Its funny to see how as humans are brains are programmed.  In my mind, I was thinking use the handles to steer, but the handles are not for steering.  To turn on the bike you need to shift your body weight!  So it took me a little while to register with my slow brain!  When I got moving, I played around with the shifting of body weight to turn and by George...I got it!  Finally!  I will say that it was tiring and hard, but it is very cool once you get going!  You can even coast on it.  I have 4 more rentals at StreetStriderla so I will definately be doing it again!  I have an amateur video from my Iphone.  Enjoy!

Rowing...I am not sure if I was blogging back when I was rowing down in Long Beach.  But now that I am up in L.A. I found a place to do indoor rowing.  IrowFitness on La Ceinaga.  They offered and intro class on Saturday so I had to check it out.  I forget the instructors name, but he was very good at teach us the technique so we dont injure ourselves!  So this has rekindled my love for rowing!  The only thing I am not happy about, is the times they had group classes, I can't make it.  I am gonna see if they will implement a Saturday class!

So the eats:

Breakfast
     Coffee
     Fuji Apple

Lunch..a concoction of my mind!     For some odd reason, tomatoes & cucumbers had been on my brain.  My mind conjusred up dicing the two items together with some lemon juice, salt & pepper.  So my friends that is what I did.  Let me tell ya..it was the shiznit!
     1/4 of a cucumber
     1 whole tomato
      juice of 1/2 lemon
      salt & black pepper
Dinner: Skipped busy doing dinner & being domestic.  Didn't even think about eating.

Workouts
Streetrider (not sure of total minutes on it, I certainly did not stay on the bike for an hour)
     Indoor Rowing - 30 minures

Night Night.
