Hot at as Hell!

I want to start this post off by saying man...it as hot as hell!

Well the day started off good.  Quanity wise my eating was not bad.  But as I plugged everything into my journal and saw the nutritional value on things...it was not a good eat day.   Due to my laziness I did not go grocery shopping, I have veered off unto the wide road of destruction with my food choices!  Not to worry my friends, Payday is almost here, and I will be stocking up on all my healthy must-haves for a successful journey!

Breakfast
    Whole Wheat Rounds
     Hot Chocolate

Snack
     Baked Pita Chips

Lunch
Salad w/  Balsamic Vinagriatte w/ 1 teaspoon of ground flax seed

Dinner (this is where I got really hot, cause I was home)
     Slurpee
      2 7/11 hot dogs

Late night snack (cause I am still frickin' hot)
Vanilla Milk Shake from Jack in the Box!
Total Calories for the day...Alot!  Without the Vanilla Shake I am already at 1780 calories!  Those Hot  Dogs were a killer they were 485 calories a piece!  I had no idea a hot dog was so high in calories!

I know I should go workout but its so hot!  Have I mentioned the 24-hour Fitness in Lakewood has no A/C?  Excercising increases your body temperature so I don't think working out right now is a good idea!  It is after 10:00pm and its still 86 degrees outside! Wowzers!

That's all I got!  See ya on the flip side!

A day with no appetite...

I am sitting here recapping the day and low and behold, The only things I have put in my mouth today, is a cup of coffee, a slurpee, a whole lot of water and some baked pita chips.  I really have not felt hungry at all today.  I have had no desire to eat.

It's a little after 8pm and I am debating if I should go to the gym.  It's still kinda hot outside & the gym in lakewood has no A/C just fans.  Not sure if I want to be there right now.  So the odds of me going are next to none, but if I do change my mind, I will updated my posting.

This is probably the most boring journal day ever!  But that is really all I got.  C-YA!

Small victory of the day:
As I was leaving work, I was pretty durn hungry and wanted something to eat.  I thought about things I would pass on the way home and made a decision of what I would eat before just randomly picking some fast food restaurant.  I selected Jack in the Box, I was first going to get the Chicken Fajita Pita which has 326 calories, but after further investigation, I saw I could get 4 grilled chicken strips and it only had 250 calories!  SCORE!  It Satisfied my appetite and kept my calories under control!  Wooo Hooo!

Well it is late.  Off to bed I go. I hope to get up early to get in the gym!  Talk to you later!

7 Healthy Snacks for Diet Success

I am always on the prowl for good snacks to eat between my meals.  I'm sipping this protein shake as my snack right now, and boy it just ain't cutting it!

I found this article on Fitness Magazine with some snack suggestions.  Honestly the only thing I see myself trying out of it is the apples with cheese and the mandarin oranges.  I am not a lover of peanut butter, but I am thinking that maybe I need to start eating it, to see if I can acquire a taste for it.

Anywho...browse if you want to, maybe there will be something on there for you.

Weigh in Day Results...

Okay I weighed in today and the scale was umm...surprisingly off in my opinion.  It showed I gained 10pounds.  Not sure how that could be.   But Instead of trying to rationalize and figure things out.  I will just record my weight as it was.  They did move the scale at the gym, so I think that would have affected the reading, but I don't know if it would have affected it to show a 10lb weight gain.  Overall I have still lost weight, so unward I go, Full speed ahead!

Weight Lost Summary
     Starting Weight (7/28/10):  377

     Weigh in date (8/9/10):  361
     Weigh in date (8/25/10):  363
     Weigh in date (9/6/10): 355

PM Workout
Get ready for another amusing story.  So I get off of work and I am driving to Ken Hahn park to walk.  I get there, check the time, it's 5:03. I started walking and it was awfully windy and very cold.  5:10pm I am walking back to the car!
7 minute Walk Ken Han Park  and yes I am listing it as excercise.  You gotta problem with it?  Ha Ha!

Today was an extremely extremely busy day at work.  I got so busy I didn't get to eat any of my snacks!  And Dinner I ate in the car on the way home.  I guess I should be grateful for the busy day, cause it did keep me from eating stuff I shouldn't have eaten, which was usually likely when I am stressed.  So all in all.  A good day!  Yeah me!  :0)

Weight Management: Fact and Fiction

Knowing the truth about losing weight can help you separate what works from what doesn’t. Don’t be taken in by expensive weight-loss fads like pills, herbs, and special foods. There’s no magic way to lose weight. If you have questions about weight loss, ask your health care provider.
Image
Fiction: “The faster I lose weight, the better.”
Fact: Rapid weight loss is usually due to loss of water or muscle mass. What you’re trying to get rid of is extra fat. Aim to lose 1/2–2 pounds a week. Then you’re more likely to lose fat rather than water or muscle.

Fiction: “Skipping meals will help me lose weight.”
Fact: When you skip meals, you don’t give your body the energy it needs to work. Hunger makes you more likely to overeat later on. It’s best to spread your meals throughout the day. Eat at least 3 meals a day.

Fiction: “I can’t start exercising until I lose weight.”
Fact: The sooner you start exercising the better. Exercise helps burn more calories, tone your muscles, and keep your appetite in check. People who continue to exercise after they lose weight are more likely to keep the weight off.

Fiction: “The fewer calories I eat, the better.”
Fact: This seems like it should be true, but it’s not. When you eat too few calories, your body acts as if it’s on a desert island. It thinks food is scarce, so it slows down your metabolism (how fast you burn calories) to save energy. By eating too few calories, you make it harder to lose weight.

Fiction: “Once I lose weight, I can go back to living the way I did before.”
Fact: Going back to your old eating habits and giving up exercise is a sure way to regain any weight you’ve lost. The lifestyle changes that help you lose extra weight can also help keep it off. This is why you need to make changes you can stick with.

Fiction: “Low-fat and fat-free mean low-calorie.”
Fact: All foods, even fat-free ones, have calories. Eat too many calories and you’ll gain weight. It’s okay to treat yourself to a fat-free cookie or two. Just don’t eat the whole box!

Good Start ... Bad, Bad ending!

The weather is changing up in the morning.  It is cold...well, cool in the mornings.  So I bought some of my old school favorite coffee!  I love those General Foods International Flavored coffees.  They are inexpensive, low in calories and a healther alternative to my occasional Coffee Bean splurge.  I tried a new flavor today, vanilla bean latte!  It was absolutely wonderful!

AM Workout
Century City Neighborhood Walk.  I tried a different route to the office today, its a bit more miles so that's good!  Took about 35 minutes...about 1.63 miles
   http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4039316
**Moment of Truth...after not working out for 4 days getting back to doing some Physical excercise feels really good!  It was a struggle when I started the walk, but it got better!  Afterwards, I felt great!

The eats started off really good until I got off at work.  Until my dinner splurge I was under 1,000 calories for the day.  But I am sure I went over 2,000 after the crap I ate for dinner.

Breakfast
     Cup of Vanilla Bean Latte
     Salad
     Italian Dressing
     few squirts of lime juice

Snack
     Vitamin Water
      Green Apple Sour Punch Straws

Lunch
     Cottage Cheese & Strawberries

Dinner
     5 pc Chicken Tenders
     Chicken Quesadilla
     Sierra Mist

Why do I put myself through this?  If I could have just maintained through dinner I would have had a fanastic eating day!  So this is another day I have to excercise off.  I need to get more workouts in!
Monday, September 13, 2010

Ugh...a day of lots of internal struggles.

After coming off of my weekend eating binge, I guess todays eats was okay.  A big improvement from the last 3 days.  I did not keep a good calorie count today, So I am not sure where I am calorie wise but here is what I ate today.

Breakfast
     White Chocolate Latte

Snack
     Apple

Lunch
    Salad (homemade)

Snack
     White Chocolate Mocha
      Slice of Pumpkin Bread

Dinner
Hot link w/ mustard & relish
     Hot dog bun

Workouts
I made it into the gym, but that is about all that got done.  At 8:30ish the durn gym was still packed.  There was not an empty treadmill or elliptical.  So I grabbed my stuff and left.  To make matters worse, I got back to my car and I am leaving the parking garage for the gym...and for the whole 15 minutes I was in there it cost me $8 to park my car!  That was the most expensive 15 minutes of my life!  Sigh.

I need to pray and get some things off my chest, I am heavy right now.  I am hurt, I am hearing the little child in me kicking and screaming saying "I don't wanna"  I hear the sound of fear in my voice.  I am feeling myself trembling because of my worry and my fear.  All I could do on hte car ride home was cry.  I know my tears don't move God, but I literally felt numb today.  All that could come out of me was tears..I can't formulate words to express the pain...but there is pain to my core.

Weekend in Review...

Greetings!  I have not posted anything all weekend so you can just imagine how things went!  So let me do a quick recap for ya!  Friday, Saturday, Sunday: Bad, Bad, Bad!!

I did not workout at all for these 3 days.  My eating ranged from roast beef sandwiches, hot links, lemon pepper wings, double cheeseburger, cheetos, BBQ chips, pepsi, coke and the list goes on!  Sigh! I have 7 days to undo what I did in 3 days.  Monday Sept 20th is weigh in day.  I expect losses everytime I get on that scale!  Time to put my game face back on!  Let's do the durn thang!

Shin Splints: Oh the Pain

Every sinced I walked yesterday I have had really bad shin plint pain.  Normally shin plints don't concern me cause they go away after a day or two, but I am wondering why all of a sudden I have shin splints.  It has been a good 7 weeks or so since I started excercising so why am I getting shin splints now.

Some causes of Shin Splints:
  • Overuse
  • Running on uneven surfaces or hard surfaces
  • Shoes with poor shock absorption
  • weak leg muscles
  • Tight Muscles
  • Flat Feet
So I read and research and based on my finds I have no idea what could have cause the shin splint flare up.  But know that it is rather painful.  Gonna take me some advil, my research suggested that, as well as icing my legs.

KFC is evil!

Started the morning off with another little walk.  I parked my car in one of the surrounding residential areas and walked to the office.  Depending on how I feel after work I will walk.  I started this day with no packed food hoping it will help me stay on my liquid diet.  I stocked up the office & the house with stuff to make protein shakes, I have my crystal light, propel and good ole fashion water, hoping I could make it through the day without eating.  Sad to report I didn't!  I tried I really did. Meal of Tempation: The Story
Okay so here I am on my evening neighborhood walk after work.  I had already been walking for about 30 minutes, I am walking down Pico Blvd and I see a KFC!  That is all it took, I wanted some KFC.  So low and behold I walked my tail into KFC and ordered a hot wing combo!  Can you believe that?  In the middle of me trying to walk for excerise I take a detour to KFC!  Again....I amuse myself.

Feed Me!!!!

Okay Day #1 of my liquid diet has started.  I've drank 2 protein shakes so far today.  Had some water, but need to drink alot more.  But I am hungry..I want something to eat.  I just munched on some raw almonds, and as you can see from the picture below, it surely was not alot of almonds.  Pray for me...

Burn Fat All Year Long

Hey I need all the help I can get when it comes to weight loss.  But one thing I have always noticed is that men lose weight so so so so much faster than women do. I wonder why that is!  I still don't know the answer, but I was flipping through a Men's Health Magazine that belonged to a co-worker of mine a few weeks ago and ya know what, they have some good ish in it!   I am determined to find out men's secret to weight loss.

So here I share an article about weigh loss from a men's point of view.  This is definately a keeper for me!

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, says my mother.  But I really intended to come home and walk in the neighborhood.  I got home, it was gloomy, cloudy, I seriously changed my clothes, put on my PJs and got in the bed.  I feel bad.  I should have walked.  I sit here saying to myself...I can at least put in a workout out DVD, but in all honesty, I am not feeling that either.  Sigh.  Gotta learn to battle the case of hte blahs!

The days ahead...tomorrow I start a liquid fast for 7 days.  I attempt these liquid fast on several occasions and sometimes I am not able to stick with it.  We shall see what happens.  I'll still journal, and plan to still excercise, but nothing too strenuous.

Dueces!

Venus Williams U.S. Open Outfit

I know this post has nothing to do with weight loss.  But this has been the buzz all weekend.  I kept hearing about Venus' outfit at the tennis matches this weekend. So I decided to give myself a mental break from work and look for pictures.   I am not sure how old Venus is, but this is something a 8 or 9 year old girl wears.  What was she thinking?  I find this comical!

1hr 20 min neighborhood walk.  From my apartment (carson/Paramount to Paramount/South) 4 miles

I love living in Lakewood, I really do.  I drive up and Paramount on an almost daily basis.  Today was I walked up to South Street, I never realized how ghetto Paramount is between Hardwick & South.  There was a brief moment, I became a little concerned for my safety!  May have to find an alternate route.  I think I may have to continue to venture on Cherry or maybe even hit Lakewood Blvd.

Night Night.
P.S. Tomorrow is a weigh in Monday. In all honesty, I am scared to get on the scale!  Pray for me!

I am very undecided about this...I would love to try to complete my Fitness Challenge this weekend, either Saturday or on Monday for the Holiday.   What to do, what to do.  Well if I make it to the gym tonight I will post my workout in the morning.  Good Night all!  Talk to you tomorrow!

Burning Calories, while walking...

Since summer is nearing its end, I have been taking advantage of the weather by trying to walk outside as much as possible.  But in doing so I never really know how many calories I am burning while I walk.

So I found this article that says, a simple rule of thumb is 100 calories per mile for a 160 pound person, and it says you burn more calories at lower speeds!  That shocks me!  So I used the walking calories calculator, and it says that if I walk 5 miles based on my current weight I would burn 957 calories!  WOW!

Veggies, Veggies, and Mo' Veggies

Today was a veggie-licious day!  I think I have eaten more veggies today than I have throughout this journey so far.  I got an article the magnificent LingLing about Spinach!  Spinach is one of my favorite veggies!  The article spoke about the nutritional benefits of spinach as well as all the vitamins & minerals in Spinach!  So I am that much more convinced to keep it in my diet!

The importance of Carbs...

I've struggled over the last few weeks about feeling full in the mornings.  That has been my hardest meal to get right.   But last Friday I was talking to a friend, who I consider a healthy eater about my breakfast dilema, and she informed me that fat, carbs, & fiber help you feel full.  So she recommended I add some protein, such has ham or turkey to my eggs in the morning, or to add a piece of toast.

So Monday I bought Thomas' Multi-Grain English Muffins and started eating them with my eggs on Wednesday.  Low and behold, it has helped me feel full!  I am no longer rummaging through my drawers at work looking for snacks to get me through until lunch!  The English Muffin only has 100 calories,  25g of Carbs, and has 8g of fiber!  Overall  not a bad addition to my breakfst routine!

Then I found this very informative article, about the Dietary importance of Carbs:
     http://www.weightawareness.com/topics/doc.xml?__topic_id=111&doc_id=1275

     My take-aways from the article:
  1. Carbs are sugar, the primary form of sugar used in the body is glucose
  2. The minimum amount of carbs required to prevent starvation is 100 to 150 grams per day!
  3. Muscle is preserved by providing 180 to 200 grams of carbs per day!
  4. Too much sugar and you get fat, not enough sugar and you will loose muscle. (in my opinion, losing muscle makes you look flabby...so that is also unattractive)
That's all I have for this morning, just wanted to share!

Stressed and aggravated!

Today start off badly!  Woke up late which is now a very bad happy of mine.  There was an accident on the 405 near Hawthorne Blvd, which had the freeway just completely jacked up!  Then to top it all off September 1 (today) I had to make new parking arrangements so I had no idea where to park today.  So I had an hour and a half of pre-work annoyances.  And the annoyances continued throughout the day!  Had discretionary requests, a have a few accounts that taxes are on extension so the taxes are due Sept 15th, and I currently missing one of the k-1s needed to complete the return.  It was sent to me lsat week, I just dont know where the heck it is, I lost it!

Then I am havng some drama with AT&T all of a sudden my phone is not working.  I call AT&T, and they ever so uncaringly said oh we made a mistake with the bill, we corrected it and you owe us $124.16, mind you they never sent a bill or informed me of this error.  They don't apologize for the error nor do they turn my phone back on!

Next I had gotten a letter from the 401(k) plan at work, saying that my loan is delinquent and payment have not been received.  So I called them this morning too, and the lady was like oh I am sorry Ma'am there is a glitch in the system, but I will take care of this for you and get back to you with the resolution.

I go out to lunch and I spill my lemonade all over hte bench that I am sitting on!  So all in all I had a semi-emotional eating day!

Breakfast
4 scrambled eggs w/ 1/2 cup of Spinach
     Multi Grain English Muffin
     1 peach

Snack
     1cup Non Fat Greek Yogurt
     1 peach

Lunch (unplanned & not good, this is what being stressed does to me)
     Pepperoni Pretzel from Wetzel's Pretzel
     Lemonade

Afternoon Snack
     Muscle Milk Banana Protein Shake

Dinner
     Chili Cheese Fries from Rally's
5 pc wings (can't find the nutrition info on)
     20 oz sprite
http://fitday.com/fitness/PublicJournals.html?Owner=cruz809
So the journal says 1541 not including hte wings...so its very likely this was another 2000 calorie day!

And to top it all off...not excercise today!  :0(  I went and did laundry instead!
That is all for now.  My eyeballs are already feeling heavy so I will give htem some rest.
