Taco Bell Fresco Chicken Soft Tacos

Back in May 2011 I had posted an article on my blog from Men's Health Magazine, titled 7 Fast-Food Meals Under 350 Calories.  Well this past weekend, I made use of the article...it only took almost a year!   Here is a link to the article:  http://eatthis.menshealth.com/slideshow/7-fast-food-meals-under-350-calories#sharetagsfocus

Some of the fast food restaurants on the article I don't visit.  But the one that I do visit and absolutely adore is Taco Bell!  I hate to say it, but every now and again, I do have a taste for those crunch tacos or chicken quesadilla!  On Sunday night I wanted something to eat, but didn't want anything to heavy since for lunch I ate wing stop!  So I went to Taco Bell to try the suggested 2 Chicken Fresco Tacos for 340 calories.  So I got two of the tacos and a small Sierra Mist.

The Tacos actually were not bad.  I liked them.  I missed have cheese on my tacos, but I guess some things must be sacrificed for 340 calories.  The tacos themselves are not very filling.  If I had eaten these for lunch, I would have definitely still be starving.  But since it was later in the day, and I already had a big meal, the 2 tacos did the trick.

Overall a good deal!  I welcome any fast food restaurant trying to give us healthier options.  It is nice to have a healthy choice.  After all when it comes down to it, getting healthier and eating healthier...is a choice!

Weekend in Review...

Weekends come and go so fast.  I hate that the weekends must end.

Me..After Spin class!
Well this weekend was good.  I got to Spin class on Friday and did another RYBO stage 4 workout on Friday. Saturdays Spin Class was really good, very challenging but I enjoyed it.  She had us on the bikes for the whole hour!  Most of the other spin teachers just do 45 or 50 mins.  Overall I am loving the spin classes better at Bodies in Motion over 24 Hour Fitness.  I really enjoy spinning...I gotta try to see if I can still ride a bike.  I would love to be on the beach riding a bike during the summer!

I had an sweet indulgence this weekend!  Strawberry Cheesecake!  It was delicious and it hit the spot!  This was courtesy of Marie Callendar's!  The cheesecake made up for the bad food.  I was not impressed with the food that night!

Cheesecake w/ strawberries
I made it out this weekend to see this Gospel Play called Midnight Cry!  It was really good!  Probably the best Gospel Play I have seen to date.   http://wilshireebelltheatre.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/midnight-cry-4-28-121.jpg  They are touring the country so if it comes to your town, you should check it out. It is definitely worth it!

Well this week I did more physical activity than I have in a long long time!  I feel it in my body.  I am not sore, but I am just tired!  But I know it is just the beginning stages of getting myself back into better shape.  Well that is all for tonight.

Recouping Thursday...

Today was an okay day.  I slept so wonderfully last night!  I was slept so well, I went to bed at about 9:30pm on Wednesday and got up at 5:10am Thursday morning.  I slept soundly throughout the night.  Didn't even hear my alarm which is set to go off at 4am go off!  I felt rested, but rushed.  So my day started a bit rushed.

I also woke up with a hunger like you wouldn't believe.  So breakfast was a bit monsterous for me today, and so was lunch for that matter!  Dinner was light..thankfully!

Today was the first training session for the Cycle for LA's Best fundraising event.   The training session was held at the David Barton Gym in Santa Monica.  I was so confused, it was a bit hard to get to for my first time.  Not too many signs and I parked in the wrong place, so part of it was my own error.  But this gym looks newer and nicer than the gym in Century City!  I made my way to the Spin Room and well the bikes...not so great.  They are old, rusted and they had a mixture of Schwinn bikes with the Spinner NXT bikes.  The first bike I got one creaked (is that a word) when I would stand on it.  So I switched to another bike. I loved the set up of this spin room, I had never been in a spin class where the bikes were on tiered levels.  That was kinda cool to experience.  The room though was hot.  I don't do well with heat.  I had just about already broke out into a sweat just adjusting the bike it was so hot!  I wonder if they have air conditioning.  Anywho the class itself was great.  The instructor Chelsea, was very good.  Very involved!  I like her!  The next training session is on Saturday and the fundraising event is actually on May 5th.  If you would like to support me, please make a donation on my fundraising page...http://www.active.com/donate/lasbest2012/TeamMorrisonKClarke1

Okay so on to the food eating for the day...

Breakfast:
Smoothie (frozen berries, 2 drops full of Liver Detox, 1 tablespoon Pysllium Husk, Apple juice)
     4 hard boiled eggs (yikes)
Regular White chocolate Latte (normally I would get the large, so this is a downsize for me)
     Cheese Danish

No Mid Morning Snack - after all I ate for breakfast there was no need to eat anything else.

Lunch
     Chicken
     Salad w/ salsa for dressing
     Chicken Pasta Salad

No Mid Afternoon Snack

Dinner
Couple pieces of left over chicken from lunch

Workout:
     45 minutes of Indoor Cycling

I think that may be it for tonight.  Maybe another cup of detox tea before going to bed..but I think I will lay low for th rest of the night.

My Big Tuna Debate...

When I attempted my current weight loss journey, one thing I wanted to do is be more conscience of ingredients.  They are so many additives in our food.  Some things we are eating are not even really food products.  Yesterday while I has having lunch, ( made a salad w/ some canned albacore tuna) I was reading my ingredients and it simply said, Albacore tuna and water.  I love this kind of stuff!  Simple!  No 15 - 20 letter words that I can't pronounce.

So my mind wandered and I started looking up the information for some other Albacore Tuna brands.  Can you believe that all the brands had different nutritional information?  I was surprised..not sure about you!

My analytic mind created a spreadsheet so I could compare the information side by side.   Hopefully this posts correctly on blogger.

The other thing that caught my attention, that the Bumble Bee & Chicken of the Sea Brands all label the tuna in Water.  When you read the ingredients, there is vegetable broth in there!  Kinda doesn't seem like that's right.  We are eating Tuna in Vegetable Broth!

Here are the ingredients listed on the cans:
Bumble Bee Ingredients:  White Tuna, Water, Vegetable Broth, Salt, Pyrophospate Added, contains Tuna, soy

Sun Harvest Ingredients:  Albacore Tuna & Water

Chicken of the Sea:  Chunk White Tuna, Water, Vegetable Broth (Contains Soy) Salt Pyrophosphate.

So after all is said and done, Sun Harvest you now have a loyal customer! I wish your Tuna was a little cheaper, but for health's sake.  I am a customer!

Operation Kill the Kit Kat Tapeworm!

Well gang today, Wednesday April 25th, was kill the Tapeworm day!
I was talking to my sister last night, and I was telling her how I was going to do a detox today since I have been craving all these weird things.  To keep this short, I told her how everyday for maybe the last week, I have been craving Kit Kats.  And I don't eat just a normal size Kit Kat, I eat the King Size Bar!  In the conversation, I told her I think I had a tapeworm that craves only Kit Kats!  I have a Kit Kat Tapeworm!  LOL!  Just had to share that so you can understand the blog title!

So the day did not go 100% as intended with the detox.  But nonetheless, I think my digestive tract and some time to recoup and flush itself.  I started the detox on Tuesday night with my Liver Detox drops in my smoothie.  By 8am, I was already in the bathroom.  My stomach and inward parts were grumbling and making all kinds of strange noises!  By 10am, I had already made 2 trips to the bathroom.  Some kind of reaction was going on inside of me!

So here is how the eating went for the day:

Breakfast:
2 Hard Boiled Eggs
Berry Smoothie (the frozen berry mix, apple juice, 2 drops full of the Liver Detox Tonic, and one drop dull of Liquid Vitamin B Complex)
White Chocolate Latte
My Confession:  I really really tried, not to go get coffee, but I did!

Mid Morning Snack:
Herbal Teas  I seaped a bag of Yogi Peach Detox Tea and Wellments Daily Detox Tea, a little honey, and the juice of one lemon.
Ate an apple

Lunch
Salad..Lettuce, cabbage, carrots, cheese, and Albacore tuna w/ my own homemade dressing (details later)

Mid Afternoon/Pre-Workout Snack
an apple

After Workout Snack
Some baby carrots, I didn't count them

Dinner
Another Berry Smoothie(like this morning, except no Vitamin B Complex)

Workouts
50 minutes of Spinning
15 minutes of treadmill (something came over me, I got on the treadmill after spin class...CRAZINESS)

The Homemade Dressing Story...
Lunch time comes and I realize I had no salad dressing!  I asked some people at work for dressing and I was offered a some Raspberry Vinagrette.  It looked a little strange, but I said made it needed to be shaken.  I shook it up and the lumps didn't go away.  I started looking for an expiration date...it expired March 26, 2012.    So that was a no go.

Well I have a small bottle of olive oil & I had my Apple Cider Vinegar at teh office, so I made my own dressing! Used some Olive Oil, the vinegar, salt, pepper, and lemon juice and voila...Salad Dressing!  It was pretty tasty!  I amaze myself!

The day is almost over and for right now, I am feeling okay. I don't know if the tapeworm is dead, but I may  try this tomorrow.  I shall see how I feel in the morning.  I will drink another cup of Detox tea before I go to bed.  I will be up for a few more hours, its Criminal Minds and Hot in Cleveland Night.  But so far, I have drank 104 ounces of water, and  had 3 trips to the bathroom.  So that is all for now.  Talk to you later!

Just another Tuesday.

Well let's see...Tuesday April 24th. What a day. Eating wise, not a good day. I started bad and ended bad. I did okay in between..but the bad outweighs the good.
Breakfast:  White Chocolate Latte & a Cheese Danish

Mid AM Snack:  Grapefruit

Lunch:  Kale Salad with chicken

Mid Afternoon Snack (after workout):  Smoothie (it was good and I'll list the ingredients later)

Dinner:  Small Cobb Salad

Late Night Craving:  King Size Kit Kat Bar!  LOL!  Why o Why?

I did okay on my water...I drank about 72 ounces.  Not too bad, but I need more. I rarely say this, but today I really wanted to go to the gym.  I know I WANTED to go to the gym!  Can you believe it?

I didn't do anything to deep. I wanted to lift weights but the weight area aka "THE MAN ZONE" was crowded, so I didn't bother going in.  I got on the treadmill and did another State 4 - Run Your Butt of Workout.  In an attempt to make the treadmill workout harder I attempted to do it on a 2% incline.  I wanted to make it feel the way I felt when I did the program outdoors last week!  And guess what...mission accomplished.  It was hard..I felt like I was gonna die.  With the treadmill to 2% incline..I had to jog slow.  Now I can officially say, I hate jogging slowly!  It just made that 3 minutes of running seem like an eternity!  As you already know the Stage 4 workout is 33 minutes long.  I stayed on the treadmill an extra 4 minutes (total workout time 37 minutes) because I wanted to finish 2 miles in a workout.  And I did!  I was so happy!  I completed 2.12 miles!   Yeah!  Baby!

Okay so my smoothie...it was my after workout food and it so hit the spot!
I have a bag of frozen berries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries, purchased at Costco's  I filled up the Magic Bullet with the berries, added 2 teaspoons of chia seeds, about 30 drops of my Liver Detox, some apple juice and Voila!  Smoothie!  It was yummy in my tummy!  Doesn't it look delicious?
Berry Smoothie

So folks..that was it...Tuesday in recap.  Talk to you later!

What Did It Take

This was a different weekend for me. I didn't do much at all. It was a lazy weekend, but a much needed weekend.

This weekend I spent alot of time around people that for some reason or another wants to lose weight. Times like these I just listen. I listen to the things people say they are struggling with, what they want to accomplish, what they are gonna do and not gonna do. You know all the normal and typical stuff we say when we want to lose weight. As much as I understand every comment that was made, and even though I can relate to everything being said, it made me think. What Did It Take for me to be committed to the idea of weight loss?

I don't in any way shape for form, dare to say I have conquered this journey. I certainly have not. I struggle DAILY, yes DAILY, with my eating and excercising. But what made me want to stop? What cause me to be more conscience about my health and well being.

I really do sit back and think what was it? I can't pin point any particular answer, but I know that I had gotten to a point of complete unhappiness and frustration with myself. Before I got to attempting to eating healthy and excercising, I did attempt to have lap band surgery and backed out of it. To this day I still get phone calls from collections agency for money for some pre-op stuff I had to get done before the lap band surgery. I promise you I regret the day, I went to meet with those doctors about Lap Band. It still haunts me! But I am glad I did not do it. Why? It just don't believe it was for me. There is a price to pay for every decision made, and I am to the point where I knew that lap band would have been a mistake for me. I wanted to lose weight, but I was not ready to switch or change my eating habits.

The power of choice is awesome! What we choose today will affect our futures. Every choice shapes our tomorrow. Every choice can take us one step closer to our goals or it can take us 2 steps further away from our goals. We can choose to stay unhealthy and unhappy or we can choose to change.

Change...is well...scary! The life of the unknown is intimidating. It brings up fear and lots of insecurities and lots of uncertainites. But risks are worth taking..especially if the goal is positive and rewarding! And isn't a life of health and wellness a positive and rewarding goal? Isn't the feeling of loose clothing awesome? Isn't the feeling of not being winded when you walk for 20 minutes...just so exciting? Ladies and Gentlemen who may read this, the reward of weight loss is just not a number on a scale. Remember that! Think about the way your body feel, the new found energy you have. The inches off your waist, your hips, your bust, and even your thighs. The inner strength you gain and the physical abilities that you gain!

Even now...I cherish the small victories along my weight loss journey. I was so excited the day when I could sit in the pedicure chair and get both arms of the chair down! It was truly a first in years! And that moment of victory was worth more than any number on a scale!

The day I couldn't get through the turn style at Magic Mountain...an embarrasing moment. My second trip to Magic Mountain maybe 3 months later...I could get through the turn style! Another happy moment! Another moment cherished greater than a fluctuating number on a scale!

And even earlier this week, when I attempted to run outdoors! I did it! Something I could not do a year ago! Another moment to cherish, another memory that can never be taken away.

Cherish those moments! These are the moments and memories that remain! The scale goes up and the scale goes down! But Cherish the Memories along the journey! And continue to take one step at a time! Stay encouraged...I say that to myself and to anyone who may read this. Stay encouraged.

Run Your Butt Off: Taking it to the Streets

Well not to sound all prideful...but I am proud of myself today!

Today is PMS day one...and I feel horrible! Before I left work I cancelled at the Arthritis Foundation, I just was not in the mood, I feel like my insides are being ripped out. I feel nauseated, sleepy, and all those wonderful symptoms that I get on a monthly basis. On my may home all I could think of was lying down and sleeping. But much to my surprise...something motivated me to get home, change my clothes and go for a walk! Miracles...they really do happen.

So I grabbed all my gear...shoes, Ipod, watch, water bottle, etc and decided to take my Run Your Butt Off Program outside. Since the weather has been iffy I had been doing the whole program on the treadmill in the gym So this is my first attempt at running outside!

So here is my workout courtesy of my lovely Endomondo App.

Some Quick stats:
Avg Speed: 3.3mph
Max Speed: 4.0 mph
Distance: 2.15 Miles
Workout Time: 39 minutes

Now there are good and bad to the results: I completed more miles than I ever have on the treadmill...but DAMN IT WAS HARD AS HELL! Oh Goodness it was such a struggle running outdoors! My legs felt like lead and even though on Stage 4 - I could run for 3 minutes on the treadmill..outdoors I only did 2. I felt like I was gonna die!

One thing I will do differently on my next outdoor adventure is finding a flat route. Unfortunately in my neighborhood, I'm on a hill so I had many uphill battles and only 1 downhill break!

I am glad I tried it outdoors though..so now I think I should maybe alternate my days 2 days on the treadmill, 2 days outdoors? I gotta figure something out, the treadmill is really not simulating the outdoor running experience. But none the less, I have a starting point which I can work from!

Run Your Butt Off - Stage 4

Surprise..I finally decided to move forward to Stage 4 in the plan!

The Stage 4 Workout:
Walk for 3 minutes; Run for 3 minutes do for 5 times
Finish with 3 minutes of walking

Total Workout Time 33 minutes; 15 minutes of which is running!

Personal Thoughts: When I first saw the plan for this stage, I was scared to try to run for 3 minutes. Seemed liked a long time. But when it was all said and done...It was honestly easier than expected! WooHoo..I must be getting in better physical shape!

Treadmill Settings:
Speed: 3.0 - 3.7 mph range
Walked at 3.0 or 3.2 (this helped with the recovery)
Jogged at 3.6 or 3.7
Treadmill Incline Set to 1.0

Treadmill Stats:
33 minutes Total Workout Time
1.85 Miles completed
353 Calories burned
Average Heart Rate 141

This is my first Stage 4 workout so I am gonna try to hang in this stage for a couple weeks! I is a cool idea to think I can jog for 15 minutes now. So I think by hanging out for a while I can work on increasing my speed on the jogging portions.

I did some reading ahead in the plan and Stage 5 recommends signing up for a 5k race. So Im on the prowl for one here in L.A. I can't wait. I have walked many of 5ks but this will be my first attempt at running one! I can't wait!

Manhattan Beach Sand Dunes

Another wonderful weather day here in LA. Last week I decided to go to an old school workout spot...the Downtown LA Stairs. Today I decided to re-visit another old school workout spot. The Manhattan Beach Sand Dunes & Stairs!

Again not an easy task! I was only able to do 4 rounds of stairs. It took a little over 15 minutes! Inclines and stairs are my cryptonite! But it does wonders for toning and shaping my legs & butt!

The Purple Eagle Has Landed

Well I am happy to report that as of today, Friday April 6, 2012 @ 6:40am, the beet juice has made it through my system. So it took almost exactly 24 hours. A bit slower than the article said, but at least it is not a 2 day lag like on Monday.

Interestingly enough yesterday after work so about 4pm the "released" matter was oddly thin and pale in color! I won't go into what that means, but I am surprised at how things can change from day to day!

Okay enough on this subject, I am sure no one likes reading or talking about this stuff! Ha Ha!

My Body: What are you trying to tell me!

I have an unusual topic to talk about. Since Juicing, I have been overly sensitive and perspective about changes in my mood and in my body in general. I feel great from juicing..I convinced myself that all internally has been working efficiently after all I am feeling great!

I noticed yesterday as I went to the "facilities" my stool was a delightful purply reddish color which didn't really alarm me. I knew it was from the beet juice I had...but I had the Beet juice on Monday! Here it was Wednesday and only now is the beet juice making its way through my system? This is what brought on my concern. Normally when I would drink any beets I had same day "purply output". My main question is how long should it take for toxins or even just food & drink make its way through the digestion process?

So I found this on the internet:
Here's how to determine your transient time. First thing in the morning, drink one of the following drinks.

· one ounce of liquid chlorophyll, the juice of one lemon and 8 oz. of distilled water.
· or if you like beet juice, use 6-8 oz. of beet juice. You can buy the juice or make your own if you have a juicer.

Buy a small bottle of liquid chlorophyll that does not have peppermint added. The peppermint added has to strong of a taste for me. The cost is around $8.00

Check to see how long it takes to see green or red in your stools. This is your transient time. Average transient time is around 21 hours.

If your transient time exceeds 26 to 30 hours, then you have a mild case of constipation. If your transient time 31 to 36 you are constipated. If your transient time is 37 to 48 hour you have chronic constipation.

Wow...I have constipation, which is I would have never thought, because I am having a movement every day! I just always assumed it was the stuff I was eating that day! Troubled my this little tid bit of information, I have made myself another Beet juice drink this morning. It was the first thing into my system this morning so I will see how long it takes to move its way through me.

Body Issue #2...now Urine! It smells! So off to Google I go, and found this tidbit on WebMD.
Odor Changes
Urine normally doesn't have a very strong smell. If you get a whiff of something particularly pungent, you could have an infection or urinary stones, which can create an ammonia-like odor. Diabetics might notice that their urine smells sweet, because of excess sugar. In the past, doctors would actually taste urine for this sweetness to diagnose diabetes.

Some foods can also change urine odor. Asparagus is among the most notorious. What people are smelling when they eat asparagus is the breakdown of a sulfur compound called methyl mercaptan (the same compound found in garlic and skunk secretions). If you catch a whiff of something after eating a plate of asparagus, it means that you've inherited the gene for the enzyme that breaks down mercaptan. Not everyone has this enzyme and, therefore, not everyone can smell it.

My urine has been smelling like ammonia..I can call it ammonia now, but yesterday I swear it smelled like I had cleaner sitting in the toilet! So since WebMD says I have some kind of infection...more research I do. There is a wide variety of reasons on this one. Some serious and some not.
What causes urine odor?
Urine odor may be described as foul, strong, musty, sweet, or as smelling like sulfur or ammonia. Urine odor may be caused by conditions that are not harmful (benign) or by mild to serious diseases and disorders.

Benign causes of urine odor
Urine odor may be caused by a variety of conditions that are not harmful or not caused by disease including:

Eating certain foods, such as garlic, onions, fish and asparagus. Asparagus can cause a sulfur-like smell of the urine. The unusual odor should go away after these foods have been digested.

Taking vitamins and certain medications can cause an unusual urine odor as a side effect.

Potentially harmful causes of urine odor
Urine odor may be caused by infection, inflammation, or other conditions of the urinary tract (kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra) or the reproductive organs. Urine odor can also be caused by diseases that affect the urinary tract as well as other organs and body systems.

Causes of urine odor related to the urinary tract include:

Cystitis (bladder inflammation or infection), which can produce a foul urine odor

Prostatitis (inflammation or infection of the prostate gland)

Urinary tract infection, such as a bladder infection or kidney infection (pyelonephritis), which can produce a foul urine odor

Urine odor can be caused by other diseases and conditions including:

Dehydration, which can produce an ammonia-like urine odor

Liver failure, which can produce a musty urine odor

Maple syrup urine disease, which produces a sweet, caramel-like urine odor

Rectal fistula, an abnormal opening or connection between the rectum and other areas of the body

Untreated or poorly treated diabetes, which produces a sweet or sugary urine odor

I wish there was a class or some material out there about the body. Cause noticeing the changes in our body can let us know when something is not function properly. Maybe I should have gone to medical school instead of business school. I would love to make sense of all of this stuff! But I know juicing does change the body..so I am not overly alarmed by anything, my body does have to sync up with its new healthy eating and lifestyle. But the changes good and bad are being noticed.

New Juices...New Loves!!

I have not posted in a while! Oh Oh! But my adventure in juicing continues. I still think this juicing this is expensive, but it is so good and I feel the difference, I have more energy and my skin looks remarkable!

This past week I experiment with new juices some I love, some I don't. And I cooked a couple days! I have been so stuck on salads and chicken that I have not cooked a meal in ages! So let me start with the meal that I cooked. I had a taste for some fish. So I bought some Cod and Baked it. The first meal was cod with sauteed spinach, the other time, it was Cod with broccoli. Both were excellent and a welcome change of pace!

So now my adventures in Juicing! I will start with the juice I love the most! Which in all honesty is a tough choice, there are 2 juices that I enjoy alot, but I will give the title of favorite to.....Grapefruit, Orange, Lime, & Ginger! I found this surprisingly on you tube. It is supposed to help remove toxins from the lymph system. So I made the juice the recipe:

1 Grapefruit
2 Orange
1 lime
piece of ginger
It is awesome...it is now my morning juice!

My next favorite juice, which was my first favorite until discovering the Grapefruit/Orange juicee...is Spinach & Apples! This one I really didn't measure anything out, but I think it was a bunch of spinach and 2 apples. I had a few leaves of kale that I threw in there and it was really delightful!

And my least favorite juice..cucumbers, apples & ginger. It was okay..not nasty. I was able to drink it and get it down. But not the most flavorful thing out there. So that is my adventures in juicing this week. I am enjoying juicing...I love that I am finding things that I like!

Now I gotta find something to do with carrots. THey were on sale and I bought 2 bags...Any suggestions anyone? I think its google time!
